James Peter Isted

James Isted was born in Aberdeen, 1987, and grew up in the Mearns.
In the summer of 2009, on apprenticing as a Carpenter and Joiner, he began life as a professional craftsman following his creative ideals with a particular interest in vernacular architecture and the design, construction and maintenance of our built environment.
He moved into painting as a form in 2020.

“Evolving in an organic manner, my work at present is to time and place what a long exposure photograph is.
Inspired by the works of the great ‘en plein air’ French Impressionists, the vast and spacious inky compositions seen within Chinese art and an awe towards 1950s American Abstract Expressionism, I work mainly outdoors and from life until meeting a realised state of harmony and completion.”

Ever seeking compositions in nature.
